When planning a gorilla tracking safari in Uganda, the following information would apply as set out in the printed leaflet of Uganda Wildlife Authority, Gorilla Rules.

General information

Before departing on your gorilla tracking
Always wash your hands before heading to gorillas
A maximum number of 8 visitors may visit a group of habituated mountain gorillas in a day. This minimizes a behavioral disturbance to the gorillas and risk of exposure to the human air-borne diseases.
On the way to your gorillas
Please always keep your voices low
DO NOT leave rubbish in the park. Whatever you brink in the forest should be carried back to you
When you approach the Mountain gorillas, the guides will inform you to be ready.
When you are with the gorillas
A 7 meter (21 feet) distance should be observed at all times when you’re with the gorillas which makes the gorillas feel relaxed and at ease
You must stay in tight group when your near the group
Do not drink, eat or smoke when your near the gorillas because it can inevitably increase the risk of diseases if food or drink droplets fall
Always keep your voices low when you’re with the gorillas and keep voices low till your 200 meters away from the gorillas
Flash photography is not permitted! Take photos and movements slowly
Do not touch the gorillas
Do not attempt to run when gorillas charge because it may be dangerous for you
The maximum time to be with the gorillas is 1 hour but sometimes the gorillas might get agitated and if they do the guide will end the finish the visit early.
On Arrival
Visa for those who couldn’t purchase it online, can purchase it on arrival at the International Airport or at any overland border. Customs and migration officials are polite and efficient. Foreign Exchange and ATM facilities are available at the Airport and you can get these same services at several shops and restaurants. Most midrange to upmarket hotels in Kampala and Entebbe will arrange airport transfers by request, as will any Tour Operators based in or around the capital. Local time is GMT+3
Health
A certificate of Covid-19 results is needed and a certificate of yellow fever vaccination is required. All visitors should take Malaria prophylactic drugs. It is advisable to drink bottled rather than tap water.
Money Currency
The unity of currency is the Uganda shillings. The US dollar is traditionally the hard currency of preference, but Euro and Pound Sterling are also widely accepted. Hard currency cash can be changed for local currency at banks and private bureau de change in all large towns, but traveler’s cheques are not widely accepted outside Kampala. Local currency can be drawn against Visa and other major credit cards at selected ATMs in Kampala, Entebbe Airport and in a few other towns.
Language Spoken
Educated Ugandans are generally fluent in English, which is the official language. Of 30-plus different indigenous languages, Luganda serves as something of a lingua Franca.
When to visit
Uganda can be visited at any time, though mountain Hikes, Gorilla tracking and other forest walks are more challenging during the rains which generally peak over mid-September to November and March to May.
What to wear
Daytime temperatures are generally warm to hot, so bring lots of light clothing. Evenings are cooler, especially at high altitudes, so carry a couple of light sweaters too. Those who intend to hike on the mountains will be exposed to Alpine temperatures and should pack accordingly. Solid walking shoes and sturdy clothing are ideal for forest walks. Don’t forget to bring a hat, sunglasses and a waterproof jacket.
What to bring
A valid passport and visa requirements are mandatory and should be checked before you travel. To make the most of the game reserves and National Parks, carry binoculars and field guides. Photography will need a zoom lens for wildlife (70-300 or similar). Print film and developing is available in Kampala. Toiletries and other essentials can be bought in the cities
Driving
Driving is on the left side. Visitors without experience of African roads are advised to organize a vehicle with a driver rather than self-drive.
Tipping
Tipping is not standard practice at local hotels and restaurants, but it will always be appreciated. It is normal to tip 5-10% at tourist oriented restaurants. Guides and drivers should always be tipped.
Food and Drinks
Tourist oriented hotels and restaurants serve good western style meals, while a wider range of cuisines being available in the capital and some towns. Local restaurants serve Ugandan dishes, typically ugali (a stiff maize porridge) or matooke (cooked banana) eaten with stew.
What to buy
A wide selection of local handicrafts are available as souvenirs. These include Musical instruments such as the hide drums made in the vicinity of Mpigi as well as excellent local basketwork, paintings, Batiks and pottery
Gorilla and Chimp Luxury Safaris Terms and Conditions
Reservations are accepted when a 20% deposit is made per tour per person and full payment of gorilla permit and chimp permit for each participants were applicable. After reservations and deposit are made remainder to the tour are made 6 weeks prior to the tour date, if reservations are made within 60days to your departure date, fully payment will be done after confirmation. Failure to deliver full payment at least 60days to the departure date will be considered cancellation by default and subjected to cancellation charges as stated by below. Gorilla and chimp Luxury safaris reserves the right to deny participation to whom to deem unsuitable for the tour.
Changing tours
Changes made less than 60 days to the departure date are subjected with Gorilla and Chimp Luxury safaris’ cancellation fee

Cancellation reserved will attract the following forfeit of tour cost
60 days and above 20% of the tour cost
46-60 days 40% tour cost
31-45 days 60% tour cost
0-30 days 100% tour cost
Cancellation fees are based on the date your written notification is received at Gorilla and Chimp Luxury Safaris by email.

Gorilla permit terms & conditions

Gorilla permits cannot be guaranteed until we receive a full payment for the gorilla permits which is payable at the Uganda Wildlife Authority and separate from the main tour deposit.

Cancellations received
- More than 90 days before the tracking date 25% cancellation fee - 46-90 days before the tracking date 50% cancellation fee - 9-45 days before the tracking date 75% cancellation fee - 0-8 days before the tracking date 100% cancellation fee Percentages are based on current price permit. The Cancellation policy also apply to the Chimp Permit.
Rwanda Gorilla Permit policy (Separate from the main tour cancellation policy)
- More than 45 days before tracking days 50% cancellation fee - 0 to 45 days before tracking days 100% cancellation fee Percentages are based on fully paid permits
Group departures
Group departures run on a minimum of 2 clients. If we don’t receive 2 clients by 60 days prior to the departure date we give our client an option of taking a private tour by incurring all the costs or if you don’t wish to take the trip alone, we pay back all the deposit fully.
Claims and Refunds
Except for a verified extenuation circumstances, refunds are not made for any missed tour services. Please see below our limits responsibility. For verifiable claims to be considered, they must be received within 30 days of the termination of the tour. Any adjustments will be based on the actual cost of the services involved and not per diem basis. Adjustments will not be unused on sightseeing trips or meals. Gorilla and Chimp Safaris will not accept liability of any claims that are not received in writing within 30 days of termination. Accommodations
If a specific accommodation is requested, we recommend or reserve the best available hotel/lodge with private bath, hot water with good service and value. Gorilla and Chimp Luxury Safaris reserves the right to substitute equivalent or superior hotel. If a hotel of the equivalent standard is not available, we reserve the right to book a next standard hotel available. A refund may apply in this case. We make every effort to arrange shared accommodations for single travelers when requested. If the request cannot be honored, a quoted single supplement will be applied.
Medical Requirements
Good physical and mental health is essential for the enjoyment of these active, outdoors tours. You may travel in rugged arrears away from modern medical facilities. Good physical conditioning is recommended as preparations for all tours, especially those involving trekking. By forwarding the deposit, the passenger certifies that he/she does not have any physical or other disability condition that will create a hazard for himself/herself or other passengers. It’s advisable that a client with any health condition or allergic to any foods plus any natural condition should notify Gorilla and Chimp Luxury safaris’ term through an email before the tour. The company will assume no liability for medical care or special dietary requirements. Once a tour has been confirmed, medical circumstances will not be considered as exceptions to our cancellation policy. All clients must be covered by a current medical insurance policy applicable by oversea travels for a duration of their tour. Proof of coverage maybe required.
Limits of Gorilla and Chimp Luxury Safaris responsibility
Gorilla and Chimp Luxury Safaris purchases transportation, hotel accommodation, restaurant services, medical evacuation services and other services from various independent suppliers that are not subject to its control. Gorilla and Chimp Luxury Safaris cannot be reliable for any death, personal injuries property damage or any other loss that may occur due to any act of any such supplier, or by reason of any other event over which it has no control. Gorilla and Chimp Luxury Safaris reserves the right to revise US dollar prices without the notice to reflect marked increases in foreign exchange or tariff rates. Gorilla and Chimp Luxury Safaris reserves the right to withdraw a tour or any part of it to make such alterations in the itinerary as it deems necessary or desirable, to refuse to accept or retain as a member of any tour at any time and to pass on to tour members any expenditure or losses caused by delays or events beyond its control. Depending on the itinerary you have selected, optional activities will be available at some of the places you will visit. Some of these activities carry with them inherent risk of serious injuries. You should be aware that your personal safety is not guaranteed and at your own risk if you participate in the following activities such as canoeing, White water rafting, Hiking, Primate tracking, horseback tour but you’re free to do such tours. Gorilla and Chimp Luxury safaris will not be responsible for God’s acts or natural deserters such as fire, acts of the government, thefts, wars, civil disturbances, riots, terrorist acts, strikes, epidemics, quarantines, danger incidents at sea, land and Air travel any other incidents beyond control.
Travelers’ responsibilities
Tour members are responsible for understanding the conditions applied in our Terms and Conditions and trip itineraries and selecting a trip which is appropriate to their interests and abilities; preparing for the trip by studying the itinerary and supplemental information sent to you from us, coming with the appropriate clothes for the trip mostly if you coming for tracking plus equipment advised by us, following normal health standards of personal hygiene in order to lessen risk of travelers’ diseases, as advised by the trip leader and following normal social behaviors with your fellow group members. At the trip leader’s discretion, a member can be asked to leave the trip if the leader feels like a person’s further participation maybe detrimental to other members or an individual. Knowing and Voluntary Execution Payment of a deposit to Gorilla and Chimp Luxury Safaris certifies that the agent, an individual have carefully read and understood the contents of the Terms and Conditions especially those concerning the cancellation policy and refund policy, limitations of liability and responsibility borne by trip participants. On the advance of a deposit to Gorilla and Chimp Luxury Safaris the depositor’s family agree to be bound to the Terms and Conditions.
